“I would…”

Answers how they would act instead of how they did.

30 seconds of theory before you start

A hypothetical answer tests theory, not experience. “I would” often hides that there was no such experience, or that someone else decided.

Strong questions

  • «Have you actually had a situation like that?»
  • «What did you do then?»
  • «Who made the decision?»

The usual miss

Scoring a well-informed “I would…” as the candidate's experience.

You're done when

You know whether the experience was real and what role the candidate played in it.
